How to choose canvas? What are the characteristics of canvas?
Oil canvas is coated on a specific cloth base to prevent oil, solvent, water, etc. from penetrating the coated substrate. It is mainly used for inkjet, photo, indoor and outdoor advertising, light boxes, etc. The materials used to make hand-painted canvases are mainly tight and flat cotton cloth and linen cloth. The chemical fiber cloth is very smooth and flat, suitable for inkjet and printing.
According to the material, it can be divided into: linseed oil canvas, pure cotton oil canvas, chemical fiber oil canvas, cotton hemp oil canvas and oil canvas of other materials.
Oil canvas: a cloth coated with a coating substrate that prevents the penetration of oil, solvent, water, etc., used for painting oil paintings.
Coated cloth used for inkjet, photo, indoor and outdoor advertising, light boxes, etc., also known as oil canvas.
Performance requirements
Hand-painted canvas: stable size, strong elasticity, clear texture, non-cracking, durable, good weather resistance, smooth and flat, impact resistance, few pores, special organization, and can meet the requirements of oil painting creation, collection and preservation.
Inkjet canvas: smooth and smooth, gloss, texture, coating fastness, coating pinhole, curl, water resistance.
Indoor and outdoor advertisements, light box cloth, etc. require firm substrates and weather-resistant coatings.
Material identification
Oil canvas generally does not need to be bleached and dyed, which will seriously impair its strength and durability.
It has the advantages of high strength, low elongation, corrosion resistance, mildew resistance, anti-fouling, and fast dehumidification. Linen fabric is a traditional excellent canvas base material, which is dimensionally stable and durable. According to the different processing methods of making hemp fiber, there are bright yellow warm water flax (water immersion degummed flax) and blue-gray rain flax (field wind, rain, frost, degumming). Because of its thicker texture and more hair, it is not suitable for inkjet printing.
Yulu hemp is a high-quality flax, which refers to the flax grown and produced in Western Europe such as France, the Netherlands, and Belgium. After harvesting at maturity, flax seedlings are rolled into bundles and placed in the field. After being treated with rain, wind and frost, the wood in the middle of the hemp stem rots, and the blue-gray cortex phloem hemp fiber is obtained by squeezing and combing.
Flax has stable dimensions, high strength, moisture resistance, corrosion resistance, mildew resistance, not easy to store for a long time, low elongation, rarely loose under the action of force, light and flexible, impact resistance, cushioning external force, conforming to the expansion of the paint Can be rolled up. It is superior to other materials and is the most suitable substrate for oil painting creation. Linoleum canvas has been used for hundreds of years.
When hand-painted with cotton oil canvas, due to the shortcomings of cotton cloth, such as perishability, moisture and not easy to dry, the shortcomings of continuous relaxation have brought a lot of troubles to the artist.
Chemical fiber (polyester) has excellent properties as oil canvas, but its disadvantage is that it may become brittle in the future, and the fabric does not have the texture that painters like. It is suitable for inkjet canvas.
